Prism the Gift Fund’s new research sheds light on social attitudes to philanthropy

Prism has commissioned a survey to explore social attitudes in the UK to philanthropic giving in the UK: The Philanthropy Paradox: Public Attitudes and Future Prospects for Planned Giving.

The research explores how the public feels towards philanthropists and the fruits of philanthropy. Here’s the paradox – the public feel positively about the results of philanthropy, but less positively about philanthropists themselves.

The research also found significant age differences in attitudes towards philanthropy – with older respondents being more favourable towards philanthropy.

The study was carried out by NatCen and researched and written by Dr. Beth Breeze from the Centre for Philanthropy at the University of Kent.
