UK’s wealthiest sustain higher giving, but major gifts recede 

New polling of the UK’s millionaire population suggests wealthy individuals are sustaining their increased charitable giving levels. However, the survey – covering giving from July to September 2021 – also shows that the frequency of major gifts has fallen. We analyse the findings.

The latest data from Beacon’s quarterly surveying of UK millionaires shows that high-net-worth charitable giving is continuing to rise steadily. It also demonstrates that the increase in philanthropy from the UK’s very wealthiest – something precipitated by Covid – is sustaining.

Millionaire giving increases through first quarter of 2021

Millionaire giving levels have increased for the first three months in 2021. This is based on new pulse data emerging from Beacon and Savanta. The data shows that giving has returned to levels similar to those at the beginning of the pandemic. With a vaccine now being rolled out and an end to the pandemic in sight, it appears that wealthy individuals are once again feeling more comfortable to give more.

UK wealthy increasing giving in response to COVID-19 pandemic

In June this year, we commissioned Savanta to conduct quarterly research on the giving levels among the wealthy population in the UK. In part, this was a response to the COVID-19 pandemic to determine how British philanthropy was responding.
